Energy

Naturally, many cables are processed in the energy sector. In fact, cables often form the heart of an energy system, in order to be able to distribute generated energy in a fine-grained manner. The cables located between the power generation and the final consumer must not only be well protected, but also need good sealing to prevent damage, malfunction or short circuit. For example, seals are used in power stations, and also in wind turbines, to contribute to a compartmentalization plan. This compartmentalisation is carried out to separate controllable fire compartments from each other. In addition, many energy cables are located underground and these cables often come together in various distribution stations. The cables entering such stations pose a potential risk of leakage. By properly sealing these cables with the controllable cable entry system from MCT Brattberg, the sometimes very significant consequential damage that can occur due to leaks at these types of locations can be prevented.

Power plants

In power plants, in fact the main source of electrical energy for the surrounding region, the importance of good cable seals has been taken for granted for decades. The power plants have high capacities, which can lead to potentially life-threatening conditions and to dangerous fires and even explosions. Safety is therefore of crucial importance in this environment. The passive safety offered by the use of fire-retardant and pressure-tight cable penetrations contributes significantly to the total safety in a power plant. The MCT Brattberg penetrations, which are used as part of the fire compartmentalization and as a barrier against unwanted penetration of water, gas or dirt, are therefore found in many places in a power station. The fact that the MCT Brattberg cable and pipe transits have also been successfully tested, including at TNO Netherlands, against explosion pressure, is also an additional contribution to the passive safety of the power plant.

Windmills

Now that sustainably generated energy is considered of great importance for a sustainable society, energy from wind is one of the most important forms of energy generation from non-fossil fuels. Windmills have therefore become an integral part of our landscape.

A good and low-maintenance operation of these wind turbines is of course of great importance. The cable transits of MCT Brattberg also play an important role in this. The standard penetrations are often used in the head of the windmill, to prevent the possible spread of fire from the turbine located here. The cable penetrations can also be used for the underground connections of the windmill, in order to eliminate the risks of incoming groundwater.

offshore wind

Offshore windmills are increasingly seen at sea, usually centered as part of a wind farm. Wind turbines at sea make an important contribution to making energy production more sustainable. A good and low-maintenance operation of these wind turbines is of course of great importance. The cable transits of MCT Brattberg also play an important role in this. The standard penetrations are often used in the head of the windmill, to prevent the possible spread of fire from the turbine located here. In addition, many of the supply and return cables entering the mills below the waterline are sealed with an RGPM annular pressure-tight seal. These round RGPM penetrations are placed around the so-called J-tube, a J-shaped tube that protrudes through the wall of the submerged foot, also called monohull, to safely anchor this J-tube in the windmill. MCT Brattberg cable and pipe transits are also often used on the transformer platforms, which form the connecting link between the surrounding wind turbines and the mainland.
