Construction

The construction sector is very broad. MCT Brattberg cable and pipe transits are used in all sub-segments of construction, such as utility, office buildings and the construction of parking garages. These penetrations are in many cases used to protect groundwater. In addition, the MCT Brattberg transit systems are used for compartmentalization against fire penetration. The places where cables or pipes pass through a wall or floor are potentially dangerous for fire penetration and the spread of toxic flue gases. Not only do these transit spaces themselves have to be shielded, there is also the danger that the cables conduct the fire from one space to another. The use of MCT Brattberg penetrations significantly slows down smoke and fire penetration, as tested by more than 4 hours.

Offices

MCT Brattberg cable and pipe transits are regularly used in office buildings. The application of these MCT Brattberg transit systems is used, for example, in basements and in technical rooms, as protection against groundwater. This is especially important when critical or expensive installations are located below the waterline. Parts of Belgium and, as is well known, large parts of the Netherlands are located below sea level and require additional protection measures, such as watertight cable and pipe penetrations. The MCT Brattberg transit systems are also used for compartmentalization against fire penetration. In office buildings, cable entry windows, for example, protect the fire shafts such as stairwells on every floor level. For such complex spaces, where many cables are concentrated and have to be distributed over every floor, it makes sense to calculate the application of the cable entry windows in advance, for example using MCT Brattberg’s calculation program, RGPlan.

Laboratories

In laboratories, advanced, expensive and often sensitive equipment is used. The risk of damage occurring in a laboratory must be limited, if only because of the rapidly increasing amounts of damage. In addition, advanced research and diagnostic equipment is in many cases not easy to replace after a disaster. To prevent the very high consequential damage of fire, or damage as a result of gas dispersion or water penetration, high-quality cable and pipe penetrations are increasingly being chosen.

A specific risk that also exists in laboratories is the influence of the equipment used by external electromagnetic radiation. Such unwanted radiation can be carried as a circulating current over cables entering the laboratory from outside. To prevent these undesired influences, E-MCT windows are used, whereby a conductive earth screen keeps such radiation or circuit currents outside the space to be protected.

Public buildings

Safety in public buildings is obviously high on the list of priorities, both for new construction and for maintenance over the years. The MCT Brattberg transit systems are used in public buildings, such as town halls, care complexes and libraries, for example for compartmentalization against fire penetration. In pre-designated fire-retardant walls, which are also provided with extra insulation, the cables and possibly also pipes are guided through transit windows that can be built modularly and then carefully sealed. In this way, cables no longer form a potentially very dangerous conductor of fire through various spaces. The MCT Brattberg transit systems are also used, for example, in cellars and in technical rooms, against protection of groundwater. This is especially important when critical or expensive installations are located here. For large amounts of cable to be run through, it makes sense to calculate the application of the cable entry windows in advance, for example with the aid of MCT Brattberg’s calculation program, RGPlan.

parking garages

In underground car parks, there is always the risk of water damage. One of the most sensitive points in the construction of such parking basements are the places where external cables pass through the basement wall. To completely eliminate the risk of water penetration, MCT Brattberg offers pressure-tight cable penetrations. These modular systems from MCT Brattberg, consisting of a steel frame, EPDM filler blocks and a seal, guarantee a watertight solution for many years. In addition, adjustments can be made afterwards in a simple and controllable manner.

Zorg

In the healthcare sector, patient care comes first. This patient care must of course be able to take place in a pleasant and safe working environment. MCT Brattberg cable and pipe transits make an important contribution to the passive safety of that environment. The risks of fire penetration at cable and pipe transit points can be controlled by using MCT Brattberg fire retardant cable and pipe penetrations. By including these vulnerable spots in the fire compartmentation, a major contribution is made to safety: fire penetration is prevented for a long time, but the dangerous smoke that develops during a fire is also stopped. These penetrations, which can be constructed flexibly, irrespective of the number of cables and pipes and their size, also offer resistance to water damage or the spread of gas at the same time, since they are also (if properly greased) pressure-tight and gas-tight.
